Grading is based on Goldmine standards (SS) Still Sealed (M) Mint ... I don't grade anything mint. I don't believe it exists. (NM) Near Mint ... This is my highest grade. Other dealers may list this as (M-)Mint Minus. The book is opened but looks unread and the cover is almost perfect. (VG++) Very Good Plus Plus ... I use this grade infrequently. This is just one step below NM. I may use this grade if there are one or two tiny marks of some sort that I feel just slightly degrades the book and/or cover from being Near Mint. (VG+) Very Good Plus ... Sometimes referred to as "Excellent". A book that has been handled and read very infrequently or very carefully. Slight indications of use.
(VG) Very Good ... Used but not abused. A VG book will display visible
signs of handling and reading, such as slight cover wear, and binding may not be real tight.
It should not prevent the collector from
displaying the book. There will no doubt better books out there, but at a higher price.
(G) Good ... A G book will show heavy wear, and basically can
be used as a filler till something better comes along. It may have a dirty
cover, cover tears, stickers, writing, loose binding, etc. The price reflects the condition.
However, all G books will be complete.
The addition of (+) or (-) to a grade indicates a degree slightly above
or below the grade.
